April 16, 2011 The 13th Annual Wetzel State Recreation Area Cleanup drew 29 volunteers, 6 Friends Members and 2 DNR Employees today to help maintain and cleanup Wetzel State Recreation Area in Macomb County. Amazingly, at the start of the cleanup around 9:00am this morning, the rain stopped. It started again as we were heading to lunch. It could not have been more perfect! In a cooperative effort between Friends of WC Wetzel State Park, the Michigan DNR Parks and Recreation Division and the Radio Control Club of Detroit, the cleanup has occurred every April since 1998. The group and volunteers have removed more than 151 tons of various materials from the 960 acre park in the 13 years of the event. A very special SALUTE AND THANKS to all who participated in today's cleanup! And a special thanks to Gilbert's Sportsmen's Club for the use of the clubhouse for lunch. It was nice to be warm!
