Friends will host a second Autumn Olive Pull at Wetzel beginning at 9:00am at the Wetzel SRA sign on Werderman Road just south of New Haven Rd.  Volunteers are welcome and are encouraged to RSVP to president@fowsra.org so we can have an accurate count for lunch.

The Autumn Olive is a shrub-like invasive species that propagates quickly and takes over vast areas of land.  If maintained properly the plant is highly beneficial to wildlife since it provides food and cover.  We are beginning an annual program to keep the plant in check at Wetzel SRA.

Maintaining Autumn Olive requires the plant be cut near the ground and treated with herbicides.  Herbicides will be applied by a certified technician from the DNRE Parks and Recreation Division.  Volunteers will be using garden pruners to cut the plants and then will stack the brush in piles or on trucks.

This event is not suitable for small children and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
