Wetzel State Recreation Area - IN THE HEART of MACOMB COUNTY MICHIGAN

We had the wonderful fortune to bird Wetzel State Recreation Area again yesterday with another really great birder! (Blog later…) What is it about Wetzel that draws great birders - maybe birds? Also dragonflies (more “flappy things” I like to shoot) and butterflies and aquatic critters. It is a really different and special place in Macomb County! Anyway, as we were leaving, we saw a map posted on the kiosk at the main parking lot that looked familiar in its presentation - even from a distance. Yes, closer examination revealed a Rob Golda (Hiking Michigan) original! It is by far the best map of the area and I want to pass it along here. The map makes it easy to tell others where a certain bird was found! Now I have finally heard the real drink-your-tea song), Field Sparrow, Marsh Wren, and across the road, our first Pheasant. Previously I got the Bobolink, Savannah Sparrows and Sedge Wren as lifers.
